2010 Ford Mustang GT
Ford introduced a redesigned 2005 model year Mustang at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, codenamed "S-197," that was based on the new D2C platform. Developed under the direction of Chief Engineer Hau Thai-Tang and exterior styling designer Sid Ramnarace,[50] the fifth-generation Mustang's styling echoes the fastback Mustang models of the late-1960s. Ford's senior vice president of design, J Mays, called it "retro-futurism." The fifth-generation Mustang is manufactured at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.
For the 2005 to 2010 production years, the base model was powered by a 210 hp (157 kW; 213 PS) cast-iron block 4.0 L SOHC V6, while the GT used an aluminum block 4.6 L SOHC 3-valve Modular V8 with variable camshaft timing (VCT) that produced 300 hp (224 kW; 304 PS). Base models had a Tremec T-5 5-speed manual transmission with Ford's 5R55S 5-speed automatic being optional. Automatic GTs also featured this transmission, but manual GTs had the Tremec TR-3650 5-speed.[51]
Ford announced in July 2007 that all 2008 Mustangs would have seats containing material derived from soybeans.[52] A new option for the 2009 Mustang was a $1,995 glass roof.[53]
The 2010 model year Mustang was released in the spring of 2009 with a redesigned exterior and a reduced drag coefficient of 4% on base models and 7% on GT models.[54] The engine for base Mustangs remained unchanged, while GTs 4.6 L V8 was revised resulting in 315 hp (235 kW; 319 PS) at 6000 rpm and 325 lb·ft (441 N·m) of torque at 4255 rpm.[55] Other mechanical features included new spring rates and dampers, traction and stability control system standard on all models, and new wheel sizes.
All the Mustang's engines were revised for 2011, and transmission options included the Getrag-Ford MT82 6-speed manual or the 6R80 6-speed automatic based on the ZF 6HP26 transmission licensed for production by Ford . Electric power steering replaced the conventional hydraulic version. A new 3.7 L (3.72 L or 227 cu. in.) aluminum block V6 engine saved 40 lb (18 kg) from the outgoing version. With 24 valves and Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (TiVCT), it produced 305 hp (227 kW; 309 PS) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) of torque. GT models included a 32-valve 5.0 L engine (4951cc or 302.13 cu. in.) (also referred to as the "Coyote" engine) producing 412 hp (307 kW; 418 PS) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m) of torque on "premium fuel" (91 octane). Power dropped to 402 hp (300 kW; 408 PS) and 377 lb·ft (511 N·m) when using "regular fuel" (87 octane).[56] Brembo brakes are optional along with 19-inch wheels and performance tires.[57] There is much speculation to the actual output of Ford's 5.0 powerplant. Various dynometer tests have revealed that Ford Motor Company underrated the engine, according to the tests the engine is closer to a power of 435 hp and 404 ft. lbs tq.[58]
In 2011, the V6 Mustang received a dual exhaust and increased its gas mileage to 30 mpg.[1]
The Shelby GT500's 5.4 L supercharged V8 block was made of aluminum making it 102 lb (46 kg) lighter than the iron units in previous years. It was rated at 550 hp (410 kW; 558 PS) and 510 lb·ft (690 N·m) of torque.[59]
For 2012, a new Mustang Boss 302, based on the original 1969 model, was introduced. It has an upgraded engine, with a 444 hp (331 kW; 450 PS) and 380 lb·ft (520 N·m) output. It includes stiffer springs and a bigger stabilizer bar at the rear, among other things. A total of 3,750 Boss 302s will be produced. Most of these are 'regular' Boss 302s, but the other 750 of them will be Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca Edition. These extra special editions run about one second faster around Laguna Seca compared to the base Boss 302. The Laguna Seca edition includes a large adjustable splitter in the front, and a X-brace where the rear seats used to be, making it a 2-seater. It also includes R-compound Pirelli Corsa tires, oil, and water temperature gauges. The Laguna Seca package is priced at an additional $6,995 to the cost of the Boss model.
The Boss 302 returned for the 2013 model year with new colors that included School Bus Yellow, Grabber Blue, and Gotta Have It Green for an additional $395.
In spring 2012, Ford launched an update to the Mustang line as an early 2013 model. The Shelby GT500 has a new 5.8 L supercharged V8 producing 662 hp (494 kW; 671 PS) and is capable of speeds upwards of 200 mph. The output of the Boss 302 model is unchanged at 444 hp (331 kW; 450 PS) and 380 lb·ft (520 N·m). Both engines are mated to a six speed manual transmission. The GT and V6 models have revised styling that incorporates the grille and air intakes from the 2010-2011 GT500. The GT's 5.0 liter V8 gets a boost of eight horsepower from 412 hp (307 kW; 418 PS) to 420 hp (313 kW; 426 PS), and the V6 remains rated at 305 hp (227 kW; 309 PS) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m). HID headlights are now standard on all models. New exterior features include an available "pony projection light" which will project a Mustang symbol from the exterior mirrors onto the ground. On the interior, an updated instrument cluster features a 4.2-inch LCD screen positioned between the speedometer and the tachometer. The TrackApps features performance data such as a 0-60 acceleration timer, 1/4 mile timer, 60-0 braking timer, and a G-force monitor, among others. Recaro seats, originally reserved for GT500 and Boss models, are now available as an option in both cloth and leather. Also new for the 2013 model is a SelecShift option on the 6-speed automatic, which allows the driver (via a toggle switch on the gearshift) to select a gear manually.

The Mercedes-Benz SL is a grand tourer manufactured by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sport Leicht, or Sport Lightweight — and was first applied to the 300SL 'Gullwing' named also after its gullwing or upward-opening doors.
The term SL-Class refers to the marketing variations of the vehicle, including the numerous engine configurations spanning six design generations.
The 1990 Mercedes SL base model was the 228 hp (170 kW) 3.0 L inline 6 300SL version in the US. In Europe the base model was the 190 hp (140 kW) 3.0 L inline 6 300SL with 12 valves, and the 228 hp (170 kW) 3.0 L inline 6 with 24 valves is known as the 300SL 24 . But it was the 322 hp (240 kW) 500SL (with a 5.0 L V8 engine) which made the most headlines. The specification was high, with electric windows, mirrors, seats and roof.
The R129 model was the first convertible/roadster to offer the automatic rollbar deployment in event of rollover. The motorist can also manually raise and lower the rollbar should he choose to. This facilitates the clean look of R129 without compromising the occupant's safety.
1994 saw a minor facelift for the SL with changes to the taillamps and white turn signal indicators in the front, and the 300SL was replaced in Europe by the SL280 and SL320 (with 2.8 L and 3.2 L I6 engines). The SL500 continued with the same powerful engine. A 389 hp (290 kW) 6.0 L V12 SL600 topped the range. Introduced in 1993 as the 600SL, it was re-badged the SL600 in 1994.
The SL320 replaced the 300SL in the United States in 1995, but the SL280 was not offered. The 6-cylinder SLs were dropped from the US lineup in 1998, leaving just the V8 and V12. The SL500 got a new 302 hp (225 kW) 5.0 L V8 for 1999.
The extremely rare SL73 AMG was sold through AMG in 1995, and at 525 bhp (391 kW) it offered the most powerful V12 engine ever put into an SL up to that time. After a brief gap, the SL73 was offered again from 1998 to 2001, although the engine was slightly updated to be more reliable. The same 7.3L V12 was later used by Pagani in the Zonda. A total of 85 SL73 AMG roadsters were built. The SL73 was briefly reintroduced in September 1999 following the SL's end-of-life facelift and a limited number were produced up until December 2001. The facelifted SL73 is the car that appears in the picture (left).
Even more rare is the SL70 AMG which was powered by a 7.0 L V12 engine.
The SL60 AMG was also extremely rare. Sold through MB from 1996 to 1998, it used a 6.0 litre V8 engine producing between 381 bhp (284 kW) and 384 bhp (286 kW). AMG claimed a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) speed of 5.8 seconds. Its top speed was limited to 155 mph (249 km/h), but with the limiter removed, it was capable of approximately 185 mph (298 km/h). AMG later unofficially admitted that 0-60 mph was closer to 5.0 seconds and the engine produced between 405-410 bhp.
The SL55 AMG was sold through AMG in the R129 bodystyle from 1998 to 2001 in limited quantity. It was the predecessor of the production R230 SL55 AMG sold from 2002 to 2008.
Only about 300 cars in the SL-class were customized by AMG prior to 2002.
Porsche 911 GT
The Porsche 911 GT3 is a higher performance version of the Porsche 911 sports car. It is the latest in a line of high-performance models, beginning with the 1973 911 RS. The GT3, named after the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) GT class it was designed to compete in, has a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine, based on the unit used in the Porsche 962 and Porsche 911 GT1 race cars.
A number of variations, designed for road and track duty, have been introduced since its launch in 1999. The current range (997) includes three road and several racing models which are listed below.
The GT3 has had a successful racing career in the one-make national Porsche Carrera Cup series, and the international Porsche Supercup. It has won championship and endurance races, including the GT class of the American Le Mans Series seven times, first overall in the 24 Hours of Daytona, and first overall at the 24 Hours Nürburgring six times.
The engine of the GT3 sets it apart from most of the other 996 models although it shares the same basic 3.6 litre displacement of the standard 996 type so-called "integrated dry-sump" flat-six engine. Along with those of the GT2 and Turbo, it is based on the original air-cooled 911's versatile, true dry-sump crankcase, with an external oil tank. The original version of the GT3 had 360 PS (265 kW; 355 hp), compared to the 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) of the regular 996.
In GT3 configuration, this so-called "split" crankcase (meaning the parting line of crankcase is on the crankshaft centerline) uses, instead of a fan and finned cylinders, separate water jackets added onto each side of the crankcase to cool banks of three cylinders with water pumped though a radiator. Thus, the GT3 engine is very similar to the completely water-cooled 962 racing car's engine, which is based on the same crankcase. The 962 differs, however, by using six individual cylinder heads while the GT1/GT3, like the air- and water-cooled Porsche 959, uses two cylinder heads, each covering a bank of three cylinders. The GT3 engine could thus also be thought of as similar to a 959 engine, but with water-cooled cylinders.
Up to early model year 2004 GT3 production, the basic casting used for the crankcase of the GT3 was the same as the air-cooled engine. The "964" casting number was visible on the bottom of the crankcase, and on areas normally machined in air-cooled applications, but not in water-cooled ones. The crankcase casting was changed in mid-2004 to a "996" casting number crankcase to eliminate these external air-cooled remnants, but internally it was the same.
Because the 911 air-cooled crankcase uses the Porsche 356 engine to transmission mounting flange configuration, the GT3 uses a manual gearbox also of air-cooled 911 heritage. This gearbox has interchangeable gear ratios and is more durable making it more suitable for racing than the standard 911 type 996 gearbox.
At 500 hp (373 kW),[1] the 4.0 litre flat-six engine in the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 is the most powerful six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine in any production car with a 125 hp (93 kW) per liter output.

At its peak, the Mini Cooper was a strong seller in most of the countries where it was sold, with the United Kingdom inevitably receiving the highest volumes.
It was a huge seller in the Mini Cooper-car market, which it virtually monopolised until the arrival of the Hillman Imp in 1963. It comprehensively outsold the Imp, and it was 16 years before the Mini Cooper received a serious threat to its sales success. This threat came in the shape of the much more modern and practical Vauxhall Chevette of 1975, but the Mini Cooper continued to sell in huge volumes and was still very popular when its "replacement"—the Metro—arrived in 1980. By this time, the Mini Cooper's design had been overtaken by numerous more modern and practical efforts, but it still offered sheer driving fun that was almost unbeatable in this size of car.
Although the Metro never actually replaced the Mini Cooper, production figures for the Mini Cooper dipped during the 1980s, and interest in the now-iconic design was not revived until the re-introduction of the famous Mini Cooper Cooper in 1989. This helped the car retain its desirability and driver appeal throughout the 1990s, right up to the end of production on 4 October 2000. Nearly a decade after its demise, the Mini Cooper is still a common sight on Britain's roads, and the many surviving pre-1980s models in particular are now widely regarded as collector's items.
A total of 1,581,887 Mini Coopers were sold in Britain after its launch in 1959. The last new one to be registered was sold in 2004, some four years after the end of production.[74]

Between 1960 and 1967, BMC exported approximately 10,000 left-hand drive BMC Mini Coopers to the United States. Sales were discontinued when stricter federal safety standards were imposed in 1968 and the arrival of the larger and more profitable Austin America (sold in the United States until 1972) sealed the fate of the Mini Cooper. Mini Cooper sales slipped badly in the 1967 calendar year and the US importer was expecting the forthcoming Austin America to find a larger market. The America was finished in 1972 due to lacklustre sales (like the Mini Cooper's final year) and the introduction of bumper height standards, that would have killed the Mini Cooper as well, had it survived.
Mini Coopers that were originally sold in the United States are becoming hard to find, so many of the restored Mini Coopers now running in the United States have been imported by individual enthusiasts from Australia or New Zealand, where the climate has limited the amount of rust formation and cars are available for relatively low prices. There is increasing difficulty in finding cars that are old enough to meet the 25-year emissions exemption and yet are still in a reasonable condition. This has led some importers to place the vehicle identification number (VIN) plates from older cars onto Mini Coopers that are less than 25 years old, claiming that the car was "repaired" by replacing every single part with the exception of the VIN plate. Such vehicles are termed "re-VINs" and are surprisingly common.[75] This may leave such importers open to accusations of a "Ship of Theseus" fraud such as befell the late Boyd Coddington from the state of California.

Issigonis designed the Mini Cooper with an emphasis on active safety. Asked about the crash worthiness of the Mini Cooper he said "I make my cars with such good brakes, such good steering, that if people get into a crash it´s their own fault".[76] and "I don’t design my cars to have accidents".[77]
In July 1965 BMC announced that following "comments by safety experts" about the Mini Cooper's external doorhandles, these would be modified on new cars so that the gap between the handle and the door panel would be effectively closed.[78]
Nicholas Faith states in his book that Murray Mackay, one of the UK's leading motor vehicle crash and safety researchers, was critical of the pre-1967 Mini Cooper's passive safety features, including the protruding filler cap, the door latch, and the vulnerability of the passenger space to engine intrusion.[76]
The Mini Cooper was withdrawn from the American market because it could not meet the 1968 U.S. safety regulations, and more intense emission standards,[79] and was never updated to comply with those regulations.[80][clarification needed] However, it continued to be sold in Canada until 1979.[76][80]
Throughout its life, the Mini Cooper was modified in various ways to improve its safety. In 1974 a prototype Mini Cooper experimental safety vehicle was built, the Mini Cooper Clubman SRV4. It featured a longer crumple zone, a "pedestrian friendly" front-end, run-flat tyres, strengthened door sills, extra internal padding and recessed door handles, the latter having been used earlier on Australian-built Mini Coopers owing to local laws.[81] Jack Daniels, one of the original Issigonis team,[82] is stated to have been working on further safety improvements for the Mini Cooper when he retired in 1977.[76] Several times it was thought that safety regulations would stop Mini Cooper production[83] Safety improved in 1996, with the introduction of airbags and side-impact bars.[84] The Mini Cooper, challenged by increasingly demanding European safety and pollution standards, was planned by British Aerospace to be taken out of production in 1996, but BMW chose to invest to keep the Mini Cooper legal until the launch of the BMW Mini Cooper.[85]
In January 2007 Which? magazine listed the Mini Cooper City in its "Ten worst cars for safety (since 1983)" list, alongside other economical, lightweight, fuel-efficient cars like the Hyundai Pony 1.2L, Fiat Panda 900 Super, Suzuki Alto GL, Daihatsu Domino, Citroën AX 11 RE, Yugo 45 and 55, Peugeot 205 GL, and the Citroën 2CV6.[86]
A UK Department for Transport statistics publication, presenting estimates of the risk of driver injury in two-car injury collisions, based on reported road accident data, estimated that the 1990–2000 Mini Cooper was one of two small cars (the other being the Hyundai Atoz), which, with an estimated 84 per cent of drivers likely to be injured, presented the greatest risk of driver injury; the average risk for the small car category was 76 per cent.[87]
